Francisca Xara-Brasil, a PhD student from the group of the BIOMICS Project Coordinator attended the AI in Drug Discovery and Biomedicine conference, held from 31 March to 2 April 2025 in Barcelona. Her participation was partially supported by the BIOMICS Twinning Project within the scope of Work Package 2 (WP2), Task 2.3.
During the event, she presented a scientific poster entitled “Predicting Response to Neoadjuvant Therapy in Rectal Cancer”, which explores the use of artificial intelligence to forecast patient response to preoperative treatments. This approach aims to support more personalised treatment strategies, leveraging clinical and molecular data to improve outcomes in rectal cancer care.
In addition to presenting her work, she also shared her personal perspective on the role of AI in biomedical research, emphasising the importance of interdisciplinary training and international collaboration, core principles of the BIOMICS mission.
