Scientific Advisory Board (SciAB)
The Scientific Advisory Board (SciAB) will closely monitor BIOMICS’ research progress and includes internationally renowned scientists with interests strongly aligned with those of BIOMICS’ participants:
Ângela Gonçalves, leader of the Somatic Evolution and Early Detection group at the German Cancer Research Center (DKFZ), who combine experimental approaches with bioinformatic analyses and statistical modelling to understand how mutant clones arise and expand during the stages preceding the development of cancer;
Hagen Tilgner, Associate Professor at Weill Cornell Medicine in New York, whose group has been developing NGS-based techniques for full-length RNA isoform profiling, aiming at understanding how different isoforms participate in specifying cellular function in the nervous system and disease;
Camille Berthelot, head of the Comparative Functional Genomics lab at Institut Pasteur in Paris and leader of an ERC-funded project, involving analyses of single-cell transcriptomics and deep transcriptomics and transcriptional dynamics modelling, to identify the gene networks and non-coding regulatory elements that control the advent of menstruation in primates.

Societal Advisory Board (SocAB)
The Societal Advisory Board (SocAB) will provide a broader context and deeper understanding of the human aspects of data, ethics, public acceptance and impact on society. It will be composed of:
Joana Gonçalves de Sá, leader of the Social Physics & Complexity Group (Laboratory of Instrumentation and Experimental Particle Physics, Lisbon), who use large scale computational tools to study societal challenges, especially in disease monitoring and public policy, and have recently received ERC Grants to study disinformation;
John Ioannidis, Professor at Stanford University, who has made important contributions to evidence-based medicine, epidemiology, and clinical research, and whose work aims to improve research methods and practices and to enhance approaches to integrating information and generating reliable evidence, being the ERA Chair holder of EC-funded project EXCELScIOR, aimed at developing meta-science at the University of Coimbra in Portugal;
Andreia Nunes, social scientist at ISCTE – University Institute ofLisbon with degrees in Educational Sciences and Entrepreneurship and Culture Studies, and long-term experience in research and activism on Gender Equality, namely through educational activities on the prevention of gender-based violence in schools and families.

Industry Advisory Board (IAB)
The Industry Advisory Board (IAB) will provide strategic guidance in the definition of an articulated strategy and action plan to maximise the innovation potential in Biomedical Data Science. It will be composed of experts with key industry profiles in the data science market:
Alejandro Reyes, data scientist at the Novartis Institutes for BioMedical Research in Basel, where he develops computational strategies for the analysis of multi-omics data to discover novel gene targets and understand the mechanisms of action of new drugs.
Evan Floden, CEO of co-founder of Seqera Labs, the creators of Nextflow and a leading provider of open source workflow orchestration software needed for data pipeline processing, cloud infrastructure, and secure collaboration.
